The Village of Taza near Chefchaouen
While wells for life was meeting with one of the gov’t offices concerning another project, the officials asked if we would look at a village called Taza to see if we could help them because the gov’t did not have the resources to do so. We got directions and drove to the village, which was no easy task. The village is located about 4 miles off the paved road. Access was only possible with a four wheel drive vehicle. We were warmly welcomed by the village even though they did not know we were coming. We explained to them why we were there and they explained to us their water situation.
Taza has an ample water supply from a large spring with good water that flows from above the village. The problem is that it flows down hill in an open trough through the village and is becoming contaminated as it makes it way down through the village. Our proposal is to cap the spring source and pipe the water down through the village to keep it clean. This project is scheduled for sometime in 2005 if the funds are available.
